From April 30 to May 9, 2025, the northern and north-central regions of Vietnam will experience scattered thunderstorms due to a continental high-pressure system, interspersed with periods of sunshine. In central and southern areas, dry weather will dominate, with some regions experiencing heatwaves.

Experts from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting have released their 10-day outlook for April 30 to May 9, 2025.

According to the forecast, a low-pressure trough situated between 23-26 degrees north latitude will be compressed southward from the evening of April 30 and will gradually rise. Around May 3-4, a new low-pressure system will establish itself between 24-27 degrees north latitude before again being compressed and pushed south by a northern continental cold front. Toward the end of the period, a western low-pressure area is expected to expand eastward.

In the southern region, an equatorial trough located between 5-8 degrees north latitude is forecast to shift gradually northward and intensify.

In the upper atmosphere, the subtropical high-pressure ridge will weaken and retreat eastward but is expected to push westward again beginning May 1.

Due to these weather patterns, various regions across the country will experience notable changes in the coming days, especially the North, where the last weak cold front of the season will coincide with the beginning of summer heat.

Northern and North Central Regions: From April 30 to May 9, scattered showers and thunderstorms will occur, alternating with sunny days. In particular, from the evening of April 30 to May 1 and again around May 5-6, there will be thunderstorms, some heavy in isolated areas. In the last 1-2 days of the period, parts of the Northwest and North Central regions may experience localized heatwaves.

Central and South Central Regions: During this period, the weather will feature a mix of sunshine and scattered showers. Toward the final 1-2 days, localized heatwaves may develop.

Central Highlands and Southern Regions: On April 30, expect scattered showers and thunderstorms, with sunny conditions during the day. In the South, widespread heat will continue. From May 1 to 9, there will be scattered evening showers and thunderstorms with sunny days.

Hanoi: Over the 10-day period, expect intermittent showers and thunderstorms and daytime sunshine. From the evening of April 30 to May 1 and again from around May 5-6, more intense rain and thunderstorms are expected, with localized heavy rain.

Thunderstorms during this period may bring whirlwinds, lightning, and strong gusty winds.
