Her bridal procession video garnered 1.1 million views, and a clip capturing the groom pampering the bride attracted 1.3 million views. Other videos of their wedding photoshoot and ancestral ceremony also received hundreds of thousand of views and many likes.
What stood out in these videos was the stark difference in the couple’s appearances. While Huynh Dao weighs 92kg, her husband, Le Anh Tu (born 1998, Lam Dong), weighs only 50kg.
Dao and Tu met through social media, with Tu taking the initiative to connect and get acquainted. After two weeks of chatting, they met in person. Dao admitted she felt a bit daring for meeting a stranger.
Though they had seen each other’s photos, their first meeting still brought a hint of surprise. Tu found Dao chubby and cuter than in pictures, while Dao thought he was skinny and “super gentle.”
Dao confessed that meeting him stirred mixed emotions. She felt nervous and somewhat self-conscious about her “oversized” figure. Opening up to Tu about her feelings, she was touched when he said, “Looks don’t matter.”
Their relationship grew gradually, like “small rain lays great dust.” Dao was moved by the thoughtful gestures of the man five years her junior. One day, Tu asked, “Do you want me to take care of you?” After a brief hesitation, Dao nodded in agreement.
“He’s very different from anyone I’ve known. He’s kind, hardworking, and always strives in his work. He juggles two jobs - air conditioning repairman by day and deliveryman at night. This allows him to support himself and help his family,” Dao said.
Living about an hour’s motorbike ride apart, the couple usually met on weekends. Sometimes, Tu would visit Dao in the evening and return to work afterward. Once, when Dao’s washing machine broke down, Tu came over to fix it late at night before heading back.
Rude remarks
Dao admitted that she felt sad about the body shaming from the public. But “I tried not to dwell on it because, compared to the happiness we have, those rude remarks mean nothing,” Dao said.
Their wedding took place on May 18 at the bride’s house and May 25 at the groom’s. Due to a sudden change in plans, they had only three weeks to prepare.
Their physical differences caused some challenges. It took effort to find a bridal shop that could provide ao dai (long dress) and a wedding dress that suited her.
Dao’s one regret was not having photos of the groom carrying or piggybacking the bride, as many couples do.
