During a regular press briefing on the morning of June 3, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien addressed the case of C.P. Vietnam Livestock Corporation, which has been accused by its own employees of violating food safety and hygiene standards.
He emphasized, “The ministry will pursue this case to the end. We cannot let one rotten apple spoil the whole barrel.” He noted that this case raises numerous concerns and must be addressed decisively.
“We protect businesses that comply with the law, but we absolutely will not support those that pollute the environment, slaughter diseased pigs, or contribute to the spread of animal diseases,” the Deputy Minister stated, stressing the government’s stance.
The Ministry’s leadership confirmed it would coordinate with the Ministry of Public Security to ensure a thorough investigation, asserting that such behavior would not be overlooked or tolerated.
Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien has instructed the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine to finalize the case file and submit it to the Ministry’s leadership. He also ordered the immediate drafting of an official request for the Ministry of Public Security to begin an investigation.
The Deputy Minister added: “Looking at the pig’s skin, with red rashes and hemorrhages, it’s clear the animal was infected by viruses or bacteria. How could this be processed into fish feed? It must be destroyed immediately.”
He reiterated that allowing pigs suspected of infection to be heat-treated and repurposed as fish feed is not in accordance with proper procedures. Infected animals must be disposed of using lime, chemicals, and burial methods.
