This development follows a raid by Phu Tho Provincial Police on April 24 at the production facility of Famimoto Vietnam Co., Ltd.
During the inspection, police seized over 71,000 liters of cooking oil, approximately 40 tons of monosodium glutamate (MSG), 22 tons of seasoning powder, and 9 tons of flavored salt, all identified as counterfeit.
In addition, nearly 84 tons of various additives used in the production and bottling of these food items were confiscated, along with a large quantity of packaging materials, plastic containers, and a complete production and packaging line.
At the police station, Nguyen Van Hung initially confessed that the MSG and cooking oil were sourced from Quang Thanh Trading Co., Ltd., based in Hoang Mai District, Hanoi. After purchase, the company repackaged and labeled the products under two brands: “Boat Brand MSG - originating from Singapore” and “Famimoto MSG - Vietnam’s leading MSG brand, Japanese technology.”

For cooking oil, after procurement, the company repackaged the product into bottles under the labels “Premium Cooking Oil Boat Brand - originating from Singapore” and “Fami Gold Vegetable Oil - made from 100% imported ingredients from Singapore.”
Regarding the production of “Hanoi Premium Seasoned Salt” and “Bep Hong Viet Seasoning Powder,” Famimoto Vietnam Co., Ltd. sourced ingredients from various suppliers. They blended the ingredients in specific ratios, processed them through granulation and drying stages, and packaged the final products into 400-gram bags for seasoned salt and 5-kilogram bags for seasoning powder. All these products were self-declared by Famimoto Vietnam Co., Ltd.
According to forensic assessment results from the Institute of Criminal Science under the Ministry of Public Security, the composition, quantity, and nutritional quality of the MSG, cooking oil, premium seasoned salt, and seasoning powder products manufactured and packaged by Famimoto Vietnam Co., Ltd. failed to meet the standards declared by the company or indicated on the product labels.
