President Sulyok, who took office in March 2024, is Hungary's seventh head of state. This marks his first visit to Vietnam.

Vietnam and Hungary established diplomatic relations in 1950. Hungary has long provided valuable support to Vietnam throughout its nation-building and defense efforts. In 2018, the two nations elevated their traditional friendship to a comprehensive partnership.

Hungary places high importance on strengthening ties with traditional partners, with Vietnam being a top priority.

Bilateral trade between Vietnam and Hungary reached USD 932 million in 2024. Currently, Hungary has 21 valid foreign direct investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of USD 50.66 million, ranking 52nd among 149 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.

The Vietnamese community in Hungary consists of around 6,000 people, primarily involved in the garment trade at markets and Asian commercial centers. Their livelihoods are relatively stable, and the Vietnamese diaspora maintains a positive reputation in the host country.
