On his personal social media, Xuan Son shared images of himself training in Brazil, surprising many fans. Since arriving in Vietnam to play professionally - especially during his long recovery from a broken leg - the 28-year-old striker had rarely returned home.
Recent training photos and videos show that Xuan Son is currently undergoing intensive physical conditioning in preparation for his comeback after more than six months sidelined due to injury.
It is understood that the decision to return to Brazil was made to optimize his recovery process, with support from top-tier fitness experts in the football-crazed nation. He is expected to rejoin the Nam Dinh squad before the 2025/26 season kicks off this August.
According to doctors, Xuan Son is recovering quickly. However, the medical team has cautioned against rushing the process. If all progresses smoothly, the Nam Dinh striker could return to action as early as October, which would allow him to participate in Vietnam's remaining matches in the final round of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
Following Vietnam’s recent 0-4 defeat to Malaysia, Xuan Son shared that football is unpredictable and encouraged fans to await the return match in March 2026, when the “Golden Star Warriors” will have a chance to avenge their loss on home soil.
Coach Vu Hong Viet of Thep Xanh Nam Dinh is eagerly awaiting the return of his star striker. Before his injury, Xuan Son had an outstanding 2023/24 season, scoring 31 goals, leading Nam Dinh to a V-League championship and earning both the Top Scorer and Player of the Season titles.
“Xuan Son’s return is crucial for us,” said coach Vu Hong Viet. “In the upcoming season, we will compete in five tournaments, both domestically and internationally. We need depth and quality in our squad. With Xuan Son back, we’ll have greater confidence in our attacking line.”
