Flight crew spots kites during descent into Hanoi, prompting airport officials to respond and confiscate them.
The incident occurred at approximately 14:56, June 10, when the flight crew, on final approach to runway 11L/29R, spotted three kites near the threshold of runway 29. The aircraft was in its landing phase at the time.
Upon receiving the report from the flight crew, Noi Bai Airport’s emergency operations center immediately alerted the relevant authorities to address the situation promptly.
Noi Bai Police Station coordinated with local communes near the eastern end of the runway, along with aviation security forces, to conduct an on-site inspection.
At Bac Gia village in Phu Lo commune, Soc Son district, authorities found four children flying kites. Three kites were confiscated, and both the children and their guardians were issued warnings. Officials also conducted on-the-spot education to raise awareness of airspace safety regulations.
“It is currently the school summer break, which increases the likelihood of activities like kite or balloon flying near flight paths,” a Noi Bai Airport representative noted. “We urge local authorities to intensify public awareness campaigns and collaborate closely to ensure absolute flight safety.”
