Vietnam and Lithuania established diplomatic relations in 1992. Vietnam consistently values its friendship with Lithuania and seeks to deepen bilateral ties with this traditional partner in Central and Eastern Europe. Conversely, Lithuania regards Vietnam as a key geopolitical partner in Southeast Asia.

While trade between the two countries has progressed, it remains below its full potential. In the first quarter of 2025, bilateral trade reached USD 94.7 million, marking a 94.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Lithuania currently maintains three active foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in Vietnam, totaling approximately USD 260,000, focusing on media, science and technology, and healthcare.

The two countries also maintain close cooperation and mutual support in regional and international forums.

There are around 100 Vietnamese citizens residing and working in Lithuania, mainly engaged in commerce at shopping centers in the capital, Vilnius. In addition, about 100 Vietnamese laborers and students are living and studying in the country.

The Vietnamese Association in Lithuania, established in 2012 and officially recognized by local authorities, promotes unity, mutual support, and a strong connection to the homeland. It has made significant contributions to the local economy and society, earning praise from Lithuanian authorities.
