On June 19, the UK-based education organization Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) announced its 2026 World University Rankings. Vietnam has 10 institutions featured in this year’s list, four more than last year.
Leading the Vietnamese institutions is Duy Tan University, which rose 13 places to rank 482nd globally, maintaining its status as the highest-ranked university in Vietnam. Ton Duc Thang University follows at 684th, a notable increase of 27 places.
Vietnam National University in Hanoi is ranked in the 761-770 group, while Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City moved up 100 places to join the 801-850 group.
Making their debut in the rankings are Van Lang University, Can Tho University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, and the University of Danang.

Globally, the United States leads with 192 institutions in the rankings, followed by the United Kingdom with 90, and China with 72.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) holds the top spot for the 14th consecutive year. Imperial College London remains in second place, while Stanford University climbed three places to third. Rounding out the top five are the University of Oxford and Harvard University.
The QS rankings assess over 1,500 universities from more than 100 countries and territories, based on nine criteria. These include academic reputation (the most heavily weighted at 30%), citations per faculty (20%), employer reputation, faculty-to-student ratio, international faculty ratio, international student ratio, international research network, graduate employability, and sustainability.
