This marks the eighth stage victory for the cyclist from New Zealand, who is currently riding for Vinh Long. The result further solidifies his hold on the green jersey as the sprint king of the race.
Returning to the developments of Stage 21, right from the start, teams continuously launched aggressive attacks. At the first sprint point in Cu Chi District (Ho Chi Minh City), Tran Khanh Duy (620 Chau Thoi Vinh Long) crossed the line first.
After the first sprint point, the main group quickly reeled in the leading riders. A group of 12 cyclists, none of whom were contenders for major titles, managed to break away for a time, gaining over a minute and a half before being caught again after 20 kilometers.
Quang Van Cuong (Military Zone 7) made a surprising solo break to win the second intermediate sprint in Thu Thua District, Long An Province.
With about 30 kilometers remaining to the finish line, the Vinh Long team increased the pace to set up a favorable position for Nick Kergozou in the final sprint. Their teamwork, combined with Kergozou’s superior sprinting ability, allowed him to cross the finish line first.
At the conclusion of Stage 21, the individual classifications remained unchanged: Mikhail Fokin retained the yellow jersey, Nguyen Hoang Sang kept the orange jersey, Pham Le Xuan Loc continued to wear the white jersey for the best young rider, and Savva Novikov held onto the polka-dot jersey as king of the mountains.
On April 27, the HTV Cup Cycling Tournament 2025 - Ton Dong A Cup will continue with Stage 22, covering 117 kilometers from My Tho (Tien Giang Province) to Can Tho City.
