On the evening of April 29, Vietnam Railways Corporation launched a special journey named the "North-South Train" to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. Both trains, carrying a total of 800 passengers, were fully booked.
Although the Hanoi train was scheduled to depart at 8:55 PM, many families, including that of Hong Trang (43 years old, Hanoi), arrived early at Hanoi Station.
"It has been a long time since my family traveled by train. This time, we are lucky to be part of the North-South Train journey, celebrating 50 years of national reunification," Trang shared. "The vibrant atmosphere during the farewell ceremony, with everyone waving the national flag, was truly moving. Once on board, I was impressed again by the courteous service, the modern, comfortable cabins, and the special gifts provided."

According to Hoang Gia Khanh, General Director of Vietnam Railways Corporation, the North-South Train consists of two trips: SE1 departing from Hanoi Station at 8:55 PM on April 29 and arriving at Saigon Station at 6:50 AM on May 1; and SE4 departing from Saigon Station at 7:00 PM on April 29 and arriving at Hanoi Station at 5:40 AM on May 1.
At precisely 12:40 PM tomorrow, April 30 - the historic anniversary date - the two trains will meet at Da Nang Station.

To mark the occasion, stations along the route have been decorated under the theme "North-South Railway - A Unified Nation." Passengers aboard the special trains will enjoy festive activities, including live music performances.
Onboard entertainment includes live musical shows from Hue to Da Nang on SE1 and from Tam Ky to Da Nang on SE4, creating a festive atmosphere. A special welcoming ceremony at Da Nang Station will also be held on April 30.
Compared to 50 years ago, the journey time has significantly improved. "Back then, traveling from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City took around four days, over 80 hours. Today, the journey takes only 32 to 33 hours, demonstrating the vast improvements in service quality," Khanh noted.
He expressed hope that passengers aboard the North-South Train will leave with a deeper appreciation for the value of independence and freedom, and a stronger love for their homeland.

Nguyen Chinh Nam, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Railways Corporation, emphasized that after national reunification in 1975, the North-South railway line was reconnected and the symbolic "North-South Train" was launched.
"The North-South Train today is not merely a journey across Vietnam but a living symbol of history, patriotism, and national unity. Through this event, the railway sector hopes to inspire young generations to remember past sacrifices and cherish peace and independence," Nam stated.
Train Chief Cao Hung Nam shared his pride, noting this was the most special event of his career.
"In the past, there have been trains dedicated to major national events, but this journey commemorating the 50th anniversary of reunification is undoubtedly the most memorable. It’s a moment I will never forget," Nam affirmed.
