The exhibition features 60 works across a variety of media, including oil, acrylic, charcoal, and mixed media, encompassing styles from portraiture and figure drawing to sketch and abstraction - all created over the past four years.
This showcase marks a significant milestone: 15 years of artistic exploration and creation for Hoang Vo.
True to the exhibition’s theme, Hoang Vo captures young women in the bloom of springtime beauty, rendered in a realistic yet intimate style. Each subject is portrayed with her own distinct personality and emotional presence.
Rather than aiming for idealized perfection, the artist’s intent is to evoke mood and emotional nuance through line and color.
The inspiration behind these “springtime girls,” as he calls them, comes from everyday life - from moments with students, stories overheard at cafés, to fleeting encounters in the street.
Alongside his tender, feminine depictions, the exhibition also includes a series of abstract works under the theme Wild dance, painted with expressive strokes to contrast the softness of his female portraits.
He shared, “Exploring contrasting themes is how I keep balance in my creative practice. Sometimes I ask myself: which is harder to understand - women or abstract art?”
Hoang Vo, born in 1969, graduated from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture in 2006 and began pursuing painting professionally in 2010.
He previously held solo exhibitions Pieces of life in 2016 and Wild dance in 2022, both in Ho Chi Minh City, and has also participated in group shows and several international exhibitions.
In addition to his artistic practice, Hoang Vo is a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture.
