Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directed the Hanoi People’s Committee to urgently coordinate with the Ministry of Public Security to investigate the cause of a deadly explosion in Hanoi and strictly handle any violations in accordance with the law.

Standing Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh signed Official Dispatch No. 91 on behalf of the Prime Minister regarding the residential house explosion at 8-TT35, Van Phu Urban Area, Phu La Ward, Ha Dong District, Hanoi. The dispatch was sent to the Minister of Public Security and the Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee.
The document states that around 5:00 PM on June 17, a residential explosion occurred at the mentioned address, resulting in the deaths of two people.
On behalf of the government, the Prime Minister expressed deep condolences to the victims' families. He instructed Hanoi authorities to promptly visit and support the bereaved families, both emotionally and financially, and to help them stabilize their lives as soon as possible.
He also requested that the Hanoi People’s Committee closely cooperate with the Ministry of Public Security to swiftly investigate the cause of the explosion and strictly punish any violations in line with legal provisions.
In addition, the Prime Minister urged city officials to raise public awareness on laws regarding the management of weapons, explosives, and fireworks, and to proactively implement fire and explosion prevention measures - especially critical during the current heatwave.
As previously reported by VietNamNet, at approximately 4:56 PM on June 17, Hanoi Police’s Command Center received a report of an explosion followed by a fire at a townhouse located at 8-TT35, Van Phu Urban Area.
Fire and rescue teams from Ha Dong District and Zone 4, under the Hanoi Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Department, dispatched four fire engines and dozens of officers to the scene. The department leadership also sent two command vehicles and a utility truck loaded with rescue equipment to direct the operation.
Upon arrival, rescue forces conducted reconnaissance, searched for victims, and worked to extinguish the fire. By 5:10 PM, the fire was under control, and two victims were recovered and handed over to medical personnel.
Initial investigations revealed that the house is a four-story reinforced concrete structure, with each floor spanning approximately 70 square meters. The explosion occurred on the fourth floor, where authorities found cylindrical objects, about 3x20 cm in size, suspected to be event fireworks or pyrotechnic materials.
