The South Korean Navy's destroyer ROKS Kang Gam Chan (DDH-979) arrived at Tien Sa Port on May 4, marking the beginning of a goodwill visit to Da Nang City.
The vessel, carrying 296 officers and crew members under the command of Colonel Kwon Yong Gu, received an official welcome from representatives of Vietnam's Naval Region 3 Command, Da Nang People's Committee, Military Region 5, the city’s Military Command, Border Guard Command, Department of External Affairs (Ministry of National Defense), Military Security Protection Department, and Coast Guard Region 2.
On the Korean side, the delegation included the Defense Attaché to Vietnam and staff from the Consulate General of South Korea in Da Nang.
During the visit, which continues until May 6, the ship’s commanding officers will pay courtesy calls to the Da Nang People’s Committee and Naval Region 3. Crew members will tour local landmarks and engage in joint training exercises with the Vietnamese Navy.

The visit of the ROKS Kang Gam Chan aims to deepen the friendship, cooperation, mutual understanding, and exchange between the two navies, while further strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and South Korea.
Previously, in September 2017, the ROKS Kang Gam Chan and logistics support ship ROKS Hwacheon (AOE-59) also visited Da Nang on a similar mission.
The ROKS Kang Gam Chan is a 150-meter-long destroyer, 17.4 meters wide, and 38.5 meters high with a displacement of 5,500 tons and a crew of 344. It is equipped with modern maritime radar systems and an array of weaponry including missiles and torpedoes.
