By As of 10 a.m. on June 11, the storm's center was located at approximately 16.3°N, 113.4°E, to the east of the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands. Moving west-northwest at 10 km/h, Wutip is expected to strengthen further. By 10 a.m. on June 12, it will be west of the Hoang Sa Islands with wind speeds at level 9, gusting to level 11.
The following day, Wutip will shift north-northwest toward southern Hainan Island, with winds rising to level 10 and gusts reaching level 13. From there, it is forecast to turn northeast and weaken over land in southern China.
In the next 72 to 96 hours, Wutip will continue northeastward at 20 km/h, gradually weakening further.
Rainfall and storm impacts
Wutip is causing dangerous conditions across a wide area. The western part of the northern East Sea (including the Hoang Sa area) and the northern part of the central East Sea are experiencing thunderstorms and winds of level 6–7, with areas near the storm’s eye reaching level 8–9 and gusting to level 11. Wave heights are between 3–5 meters, with extremely rough seas.
From the night of June 11, seas off the coast from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai will see wind intensities increasing to level 6–7, and areas near the center of the storm may reach level 8, gusting to level 10. Waves could reach 2–4 meters.
All vessels in these zones are at risk of thunderstorms, waterspouts, and strong winds.
Heavy rainfall zones identified
Due to the storm’s wide-reaching circulation, from the afternoon of June 11 to June 13, the central provinces will experience heavy to very heavy rain. The central region is expected to receive 100–300 mm of rainfall, with some areas exceeding 450 mm. The northern Central Highlands may receive 70–150 mm, with localized areas surpassing 200 mm.
Emergency sea rescue mission
At noon on June 11, Colonel Phan Van Thi, Deputy Commander of the Quang Nam Border Guard Command, reported that vessel BP-43.9801, carrying seven soldiers from Maritime Unit 2, had departed Tam Hiep Port (Nui Thanh district) to rescue a distressed fishing vessel.
That morning, the fishing boat QNa 92954-TS, with two crew members aboard, experienced engine failure about 40 nautical miles off Mui An Hoa. A nearby fishing boat attempted a tow, but strong level 6 winds and rough seas made rescue efforts challenging.
Upon receiving the distress call, the provincial Border Guard Command ordered the Ky Ha Port Border Station to maintain communication with the vessel and implement a coordinated rescue plan. The rescue team is expected to reach the boat by 1 p.m. today.
