Tan Son Nhat International Airport announced this major operational change on May 14, confirming that the national carrier will consolidate its entire domestic network under the new terminal, following over 20 days of initial operations on the Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi and Van Don routes from T3.
The relocation is part of a larger strategy to enhance passenger flow and operational efficiency at one of Vietnam’s busiest airports.
The transition had originally been scheduled for April 28, but Vietnam Airlines postponed it after reviewing logistics and passenger readiness.
As of May 17, all domestic flights under the Vietnam Airlines brand will depart from Terminal T3, except for services to Con Dao (VCS), Ca Mau (CAH), and Rach Gia (VKG) operated with ATR72 aircraft under the VN flight code. These flights will continue operating from Terminal T1.
Other airlines including VietJet Air, Pacific Airlines, Vasco, Vietravel Airlines, and Bamboo Airways will also continue to use Terminal T1 for the time being.
Terminal T3, inaugurated on April 19, represents a nearly $433 million (approx. 11 trillion VND) investment. Designed with an annual handling capacity of 20 million passengers, the terminal will raise Tan Son Nhat Airport’s total capacity to 50 million passengers per year.
