The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that, at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra will lead a high-level delegation from the Royal Thai Government on an official visit to Vietnam from May 15 to 16.

During the visit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra will co-chair the fourth meeting of the Vietnam - Thailand Joint Cabinet.

This will mark Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s first official visit to Vietnam since taking office.

Vietnam and Thailand enjoy close diplomatic ties and are both members of ASEAN and various regional sub-organizations. The two nations are working toward commemorating 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2026.

The Vietnam - Thailand strategic partnership continues to grow stronger, deepening mutual trust and delivering tangible benefits to the people of both countries. This cooperation also contributes positively to a shared future of peace, stability, cooperation, and sustainable development in the region and beyond.

Thailand remains one of Vietnam’s most important partners in the region, and is among Vietnam’s top trade and investment partners within ASEAN.

Economically, both sides aim to increase bilateral trade volume to $25 billion by facilitating trade, improving market access, and minimizing the use of trade defense measures on each other’s goods. They also plan to enhance cooperation in emerging sectors such as digital economy, e-commerce, and green energy.

Leading Thai investors have already established a strong presence across most provinces and cities in Vietnam. In parallel, cultural, tourism, education, and people-to-people exchanges are flourishing, fostering deeper mutual understanding between the two nations.

Defense and security cooperation also stands as a key pillar of the bilateral relationship. Tourism remains a major area of potential, with both Vietnam and Thailand exploring ways to implement ASEAN regional connectivity initiatives to attract international visitors. One such initiative under consideration is Thailand’s “Six countries - one destination” strategy.
