In the dead of night, a burglar crept into an apartment in Hanoi and stole several valuable items - right next to the sleeping homeowner. When discovered, the intruder violently resisted and escaped.

On the afternoon of May 13, Vu Van Dai, a resident of Truong Dinh Street in Giap Bat Ward, Hoang Mai District, recounted the shocking incident with VietNamNet.
“At around 3:00 AM on May 11, I was sleeping when I suddenly noticed a stranger rummaging through my room,” Dai said. “The man had already taken two mobile phones, a wallet, and a wristwatch. As he continued searching, I jumped up and tried to restrain him.”
Dai said his actions were instinctive, not even fully realizing at first that the man was a thief. “I grabbed him and held on tightly, but he struggled fiercely and managed to break free before fleeing.”
Upon checking his belongings, Dai confirmed that he had lost two phones, a wallet, and a watch - valued at approximately 26 million VND (about 1,025 USD). He reported the break-in to the Giap Bat Ward Police.
Less than two hours after receiving the report, police arrested a suspect at around 5:00 AM. The alleged thief is said to be between 35 and 37 years old and originally from Hung Yen Province.
A representative from the Giap Bat Police confirmed the incident and stated that authorities are actively investigating and clarifying details of the case.
This brazen nighttime theft in a densely populated residential area serves as a stark warning to the public. Residents are advised to remain vigilant, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours.
