At the mid-year review conference of Ho Chi Minh City’s health sector held on July 9, Dr. Nguyen Van Vinh Chau, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, announced the 2024 hospital quality scores for 124 medical facilities, excluding hospitals under ministries and newly established institutions operating for less than 12 months.

Gia Dinh People’s Hospital – 963.51 points
Tam Anh Hospital – 962.57 points
City Children’s Hospital (Nhi Dong Thanh Pho) – 956.12 points

Nhi Dong 1 Hospital – 947.15 points
115 People’s Hospital – 936.25 points
Thu Duc City Hospital – 928.34 points
Tropical Diseases Hospital – 907.30 points

Outpatient and inpatient statistics:
In the first half of 2025, Ho Chi Minh City recorded over 22.4 million outpatient visits, a 10.5% increase compared to the same period last year. In comparison:
Binh Duong: 2.5 million visits (+46.6%)
Ba Ria - Vung Tau: 1.9 million visits (−4.4%)
In terms of inpatient services:
HCMC: over 1 million hospitalizations (+9.9%)
Binh Duong: 126,000 admissions (+5.9%)
Ba Ria - Vung Tau: 153,000 admissions (+4.4%)
Healthcare system overview post-merger:
After the administrative boundary expansion, Ho Chi Minh City now has 164 hospitals, including:
14 hospitals under central ministries
32 public general hospitals
28 public specialized hospitals
90 private hospitals
The total number of hospital beds is nearly 49,800, but the bed-to-population ratio has dropped to 35.1 beds per 10,000 people, down from 42 beds before the population surged to 13.7 million.
Additionally, the city manages:
38 district medical centers (17 with inpatient beds)
168 commune-level clinics
Nearly 300 other healthcare points
The private healthcare sector continues to grow, boasting:
90 private hospitals
Over 10,600 clinics
More than 15,600 pharmaceutical establishments
