On the morning of July 9, the People's Committee of Son Tra Ward (Da Nang City) confirmed to VietNamNet that the fatal accident occurred during a paragliding flight on the peninsula.

Officials stated that relevant agencies are handling the case and will release formal findings in due course.

Initial findings identify the deceased as Hoang Quoc T., age 36, originally from Hung Yen and temporarily residing in Ho Chi Minh City.

The accident occurred at around 5:00 p.m. on July 8. After launching from a point on Son Tra Peninsula, Mr. T. and another individual - believed to be the paraglider pilot - encountered a mid-flight issue that caused them to fall near the base of the mountain, close to the shoreline.

Upon receiving the emergency report, rescue and investigation teams promptly arrived at the scene to carry out search, recovery, and preliminary investigations.

Paragliding has been allowed on a pilot basis at Son Tra Peninsula since June 2023, under authorization from the Da Nang People's Committee.

In May 2024, the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism released a list of five operators deemed compliant with safety regulations for conducting commercial unpowered paragliding services at the designated launch site on the peninsula.
