Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh recently signed the decision appointing Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Hien, a member of the Party Central Committee and Commander of the Air Defense - Air Force Service, as Deputy Minister of National Defense.

Born in 1967, Nguyen Van Hien hails from Vu Thu District, Thai Binh Province (as per the former administrative division). He holds a degree in military science.

He has served for many years in various units within the Air Defense - Air Force Service, having held several key positions including Division Commander of Air Defense Division 365, Deputy Commander of the Service, Deputy Commander cum Chief of Staff, and eventually Commander of the Service.

In January 2021, he was elected to the 13th Party Central Committee.

The current Minister of National Defense is General Phan Van Giang. Other Deputy Ministers include: General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army; Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien; Senior Lieutenant General Le Huy Vinh; Senior Lieutenant General Vu Hai San; Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam; Lieutenant General Nguyen Hong Thai; Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang; and Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Hien.

The Prime Minister also appointed Colonel Khuc Thanh Du, Commander of the Quang Ninh Provincial Military Command under Military Region 3, as Deputy Political Commissar of Military Region 3.

Additionally, Colonel Nguyen Van Lich, Deputy Chief of Staff of Military Region 1, was appointed Deputy Commander of Military Region 1.
