According to preliminary data from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, the industry recorded an average on-time performance rate of 62.6% during this period.

Punctuality down, flight cancellations up

While the aviation sector saw strong recovery, the average on-time rate decreased by 13.1 percentage points compared to the same period in 2024.

Bamboo Airways led the sector with the highest punctuality, operating 81% of its flights on time. Pacific Airlines followed closely with 80.2%. VASCO, Vietnam Airlines, and Vietravel Airlines recorded on-time rates of 78%, 71%, and 67.7%, respectively. Vietjet Air posted the lowest on-time rate among domestic carriers, at just 50.6%.

The industry average for on-time performance stood at 62.6% for the first six months of 2025.

Regarding flight cancellations, domestic airlines collectively canceled 844 flights in the first half of 2025, equivalent to 0.6% of total operations, marking a slight increase of 0.2 percentage points over the previous year.

Bamboo Airways had the lowest cancellation rate at 0.1% (8 flights). Vietjet Air canceled 0.5% of its flights (323 flights), while Vietnam Airlines and Vietravel Airlines each reported a 0.7% cancellation rate (438 and 15 flights, respectively). VASCO and Pacific Airlines saw the highest cancellation rates at 0.9%, canceling 31 and 29 flights, respectively.

Domestic aviation recovery gains momentum

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam reported that air transport showed notable improvement in the first half of 2025, with an estimated 59.7 million passengers handled  -  up 9.1% year-on-year.

This included 22.9 million international passengers, up 12.9%, and 36.8 million domestic passengers, up 6.9%. The domestic aviation infrastructure has also seen increased investment for upgrades and expansions.

Given these favorable conditions, the domestic aviation market is expected to continue its recovery and maintain stable growth in the second half of 2025 and beyond.

Vietnamese airlines are enhancing operational capacity and expanding networks. Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air have launched several new international routes to Europe and Asia. Vietravel Airlines received its first owned aircraft, supplementing its leased fleet to strengthen operational capacity.

Meanwhile, Bamboo Airways maintained a stable flight schedule and focused on high-demand domestic routes during the summer peak. The airline recently held an extraordinary general meeting to finalize governance structure and prepare for its 2025–2030 five-year strategic plan aimed at financial reinforcement and tapping into the next growth cycle.
