On May 3, Ho Chi Minh City police announced updates on the ongoing investigation into case VN10, which began when four Vietnam Airlines flight attendants were caught attempting to smuggle narcotics through Tan Son Nhat Airport on March 16, 2023.

To date, authorities have tracked the “flow” of narcotics through complex networks and successfully dismantled over 500 branches and sub-networks of criminal organizations operating across 36 provinces and cities. Investigators have indicted 1,529 suspects, seizing 568.5 kilograms of various narcotics, 12 firearms, 67 bullets, 3 grenades, and other related evidence.

Police estimate the total drug-related transaction value in this case exceeds 29 trillion VND (approximately 1.14 billion USD).

Since uncovering the involvement of the four flight attendants, the special task force has been working intensively to cross-check data and interrogate suspects to reconstruct the criminal network and identify all related individuals.

Among the previously arrested suspects were Ngo Van Minh and Pham Nguyen Kim Hong, who were charged in November and December 2024 with illegal drug trafficking. Information from their cases led authorities to uncover two large-scale drug trafficking groups.

Surveillance revealed that these groups were transporting significant quantities of narcotics to supply users and addicts in Binh Duong Province and Ho Chi Minh City, especially during the recent April 30 holiday period.

On April 24 and 25, Ho Chi Minh City police moved in, successfully dismantling both groups, arresting 27 individuals, and seizing over 245 kilograms of drugs, preventing them from reaching the public.

In recognition of these exceptional achievements, on May 3, leaders from the Ministry of Public Security issued commendations and awarded merit certificates to the Ho Chi Minh City Police teams involved in the operation.
