Makeshift and dilapidated homes in communes of Yen Lap district, Phu Tho province are gradually being replaced by permanent, solid houses.

As of June 28, six additional provinces across Vietnam have completed the elimination of makeshift and dilapidated housing, bringing the total number of localities free from such housing to 44 out of 63 - accounting for nearly 70%.

According to the Ministry of Ethnic Affairs and Religion, these latest completions reflect successful implementation of housing support for three groups: people with meritorious service to the revolution, beneficiaries of the national target housing support program, and poor or near-poor households supported through community-driven initiatives.

The newly completed provinces include Bac Giang, Dong Nai, Dong Thap, Lam Dong, Quang Ngai, and Lai Chau. This brings the total number of localities with no remaining makeshift or rundown housing to 44 out of 63, or 69.8%.

In particular, for the program initiated on October 5, 2024, aimed specifically at eliminating makeshift and dilapidated houses, 49 out of 63 provinces and cities have achieved full completion - reaching a progress rate of 77.8%.

The Ministry further reported that, according to data from local authorities updated on the national software system as of June 28, 2025, a total of 264,522 makeshift and dilapidated homes across the country have received support for removal or rebuilding.

Of these, 229,328 homes have been completed and inaugurated, while 35,194 homes are currently under construction or in progress.

Specifically, the program supported the construction or renovation of 41,632 homes for people with meritorious service to the revolution, 87,105 homes under the two national target programs, and 126,867 homes through the campaign to eliminate makeshift and dilapidated housing. Within the latter, 108,075 houses have been completed, and 18,792 are under construction.
