Thailand has long been one of Vietnam’s major coffee export markets. According to the General Department of Customs, in the first three months of this year, Vietnamese enterprises exported approximately 8,070 tons of coffee to Thailand, earning around USD 62.6 million.
Compared to the same period last year, Vietnam's coffee exports to Thailand decreased by 30.7% in volume but surged by 61.4% in value thanks to higher coffee prices.
Vietnamese exporters primarily shipped Robusta coffee to Thailand, reaching 1,209 tons worth USD 5.97 million - a 74.3% drop in volume and a 55.5% decline in value compared to the same period in 2024.
Meanwhile, the export value of Arabica coffee and processed coffee to Thailand skyrocketed, increasing by 133.1% and 583.8% respectively.
In the first three months of 2025, the average export price of Vietnamese coffee to Thailand reached USD 7,765 per ton, up 132.9% year-on-year.
Despite strong growth in export value, statistics from the International Trade Centre (ITC) revealed that Vietnam is no longer Thailand’s largest coffee supplier.
In detail, during the first two months of 2025, Thailand spent USD 27.1 million to import 5,600 tons of coffee, a 20.5% decrease in volume but a 12.6% increase in value compared to the same period last year.
Thailand sourced this coffee from 18 countries and territories around the world.
Remarkably, Laos officially surpassed Vietnam to become Thailand’s leading coffee supplier during the first two months of 2025. Laos exported 3,460 tons of coffee to Thailand, earning about USD 13.4 million - an increase of 16.2% in volume and 48.5% in value compared to last year.
As a result, Laos’ market share of Thailand’s coffee imports rose from 42.2% in the first two months of 2024 to over 61.7% in the same period this year.
Vietnam became Thailand’s second-largest coffee supplier. In the first two months of this year, Thailand imported 1,360 tons of coffee from
Vietnam, worth USD 7.43 million - a 64.7% decrease in volume and a 35.6% decrease in value year-on-year.
Consequently, Vietnam’s market share in Thailand’s total coffee imports fell from 54.54% in early 2024 to 24.29% in early 2025.
Besides Vietnam, during the first two months of this year, Thailand also increased coffee imports from other markets such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brazil.
