
During a meeting today with Xia Dongfeng, Chairman of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), who is visiting Vietnam, the Prime Minister encouraged major Chinese enterprises, especially those with advanced technology, to invest and expand their investments in key infrastructure sectors, including aviation.
The Prime Minister noted that although COMAC is a relatively young company, it has rapidly grown to become a major aircraft manufacturer in China.
Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that Vietnam is always ready to facilitate airlines in establishing and operating routes between Vietnam and other countries, thereby contributing to trade, tourism, and socio-economic development.
He added that during the ongoing visit of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping to Vietnam, the two sides would discuss numerous key issues related to the future development of bilateral relations. Several important cooperation agreements, including those related to the aviation sector, are expected to be signed.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the valuable contributions of the COMAC-Vietjet Air partnership to social welfare in recent years. He also highlighted the potential for expanded cooperation between COMAC and other Vietnamese airlines and partners in the future.
He urged COMAC to support Vietnamese partners in developing aircraft fleets, expanding flight routes, manufacturing components, and building a comprehensive aviation and aerospace ecosystem. He also emphasized the importance of high-quality human resource training and satellite development to advance the Vietnam - China relationship.
In the short term, he proposed that COMAC cooperate in aircraft purchases, leasing, and lease-purchase arrangements, and invest in warranty, maintenance, and repair centers in Vietnam.
Chairman Xia Dongfeng affirmed that COMAC would strengthen collaboration with Vietnamese partners as requested by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. He also expressed interest in expanding partnerships beyond air transport, with a vision of helping to build Vietnam’s aviation industry.
