According to the Ministry of Education and Training, all six members of Vietnam’s national team participating in the 2025 Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO) earned medals, including 1 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze.
Specifically, Nguyen Bui Duc Dung, an 11th-grade student at the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences under Vietnam National University, Hanoi, won the gold medal.
The two silver medals were awarded to Le Kien Thanh (12th grade, Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, Binh Dinh Province) and Dang Huy Hau (10th grade, Thang Long High School for the Gifted, Lam Dong Province).
Three bronze medals went to Ninh Quang Thang (12th grade, Ha Long High School for the Gifted, Quang Ninh Province); Nguyen Huy Phong (11th grade, Lao Cai High School for the Gifted, Lao Cai Province); and Nguyen Xuan Chi Thanh (11th grade, High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi).
Notably, Nguyen Bui Duc Dung earned the gold medal with a score of 236 out of 300, including perfect scores (100 points) on two problems. In particular, for problem 1, Dung was one of only three contestants to score the maximum.
Dang Huy Hau impressed with his silver-medal performance, achieving a perfect score on problem 3 with a solution that consisted of just four lines of code, surprising even the judges.
With these results, Vietnam ranked fifth overall, following China, Russia, Japan, and South Korea, while continuing to assert its leading position among Southeast Asian nations.
The outcome also reflects the thorough and up-to-date preparation of Vietnamese students. Moreover, Vietnam’s consistent achievements in regional and international informatics Olympiads demonstrate that its students possess computational thinking and aptitude comparable to top performers across Asia.
The 19th APIO took place from May 17 to 18, attracting 42 delegations from countries and territories with a total of 868 contestants.
This year’s exam was praised for its creativity and alignment with international Olympiad standards, offering diverse and innovative approaches for each problem.
