Despite their best efforts, the Vietnam women’s volleyball team suffered a 0-3 defeat (20/25, 23/25, 20/25) against hosts China U21 in the second group stage match of the 2025 Shanghai Future Star tournament.

Following an impressive 3-0 victory over France U21 in their opening match, Vietnam entered the clash against China U21 with confidence. However, the match proved to be a much tougher challenge.

Vietnam started well in the first set, but defensive instability and inconsistent first passes allowed China to take control, resulting in a 20-25 loss. In the second set, head coach Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa introduced Bui Thi Anh Thao, which helped energize Vietnam’s offense. Still, after drawing level at 23-23, Vietnam conceded two consecutive points and lost the set 23-25.

Set three showcased commendable determination from Vietnam, but China U21 once again displayed composure in key moments to close the match with a 25-20 win, sealing a 3-0 overall victory.

At 9:00 AM on July 15, Vietnam will face Brazil’s U21 Sesi Vôlei Bauru in their final group stage match.
