Vietnam’s men’s volleyball team had a disappointing start to the 2025 SEA V.League, losing 0-3 to host nation Philippines in their opening match.
In the first set, the Philippines effectively exploited Vietnam’s weak first-pass execution. The offensive plays orchestrated by head coach Tran Dinh Tien and his players lacked fluidity, resulting in a lopsided 17-25 loss.
In the second set, team captain Pham Van Hiep stepped up with an inspired performance that gave Vietnam early momentum. However, the Philippines maintained a tight contest and capitalized on two late defensive errors from Vietnam to narrowly claim the set 25-23.
The third set mirrored earlier frustrations for Vietnam. Although the team managed to equalize the score mid-set, they lost control after trailing 19-20, conceding five consecutive points to end the set 19-25.
The 0-3 defeat (17-25, 23-25, 19-25) places Vietnam at the bottom of the standings after the first round of the SEA V.League 2025.
