Preparations are underway for one of the most complex military flyovers in Vietnam's history as part of the 80th National Day celebration on September 2. The Northern Flight Management Company has confirmed that nine squadrons comprising 30 aircraft will participate in a large-scale aerial salute.
These include helicopters, C-295 and C-212i transport aircraft, YAK-130 and L-39NG trainer jets, and Su-30MK2 fighter jets. Take-offs and landings will be coordinated from three airports: Hoa Lac, Gia Lam, and Kep.
A coordination meeting held at Division 371 Air Command Headquarters with representatives from Air Division 371, Air Brigade 918, and the Northern Flight Management Company detailed the flight schedules, coordination strategies, and impact assessments on civilian air traffic - particularly flights arriving and departing from Noi Bai International Airport.
Strict safety standards, limited civilian impact
Planners emphasized minimizing disruptions to civil aviation, especially international flights, while maintaining stringent air safety protocols and precise adherence to the flight schedule. Division 371 has proposed specific timelines for training flights, rehearsals, and the main event, marking it as the largest and most technically demanding air operation ever staged for a national event.
Both military and civil aviation units have jointly agreed on coordination principles and air traffic management to ensure safe, seamless operations during the celebration.
Naval Air Force Brigade 954 prepares for ceremonial flight
On July 10, Vice Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem, Commander of the Vietnam People's Navy, inspected the preparations of Naval Air Force Brigade 954 for their role in the ceremonial sea parade.
Acknowledging the honor and responsibility of participating in such a historic event, the Commander urged the brigade to uphold the highest standards in training and safety to contribute meaningfully to the grand military display.
An international military presence expected
The Vietnamese government has entrusted the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security to lead the organization of the military parade and review, commemorating the 80th anniversaries of the August Revolution and National Day.
The military segment will include 38 formations and a spectacular air show. Defense Minister Phan Van Giang has extended formal invitations to military representatives from Russia, China, Laos, Cambodia, and Belarus to attend and potentially participate in the event.
