Update news amnesty policy
A press conference was held in Hanoi on July 7 to announce the State President’s decision on amnesty for the second round in 2025, on the occasion of the upcoming 80th National Day (September 2, 1945-2025).
The amnesty embodies the Party and State’s dual approach: strict legal enforcement paired with humane and rehabilitative policies toward remorseful offenders, said Permanent Deputy PM Nguyen Hoa Binh.
Tens of thousands receive early release or sentence reductions for good behavior, amid broad judicial reforms.
Under Decision No. 767, the President of Vietnam has granted amnesty to 8,055 inmates currently serving prison sentences and one individual temporarily suspended from serving a sentence who qualifies for early release.
Vietnam’s 2025 amnesty program introduces reduced sentence requirements for early release and stricter transparency measures to ensure fair and lawful implementation.
Since 2009, Vietnam has pardoned nearly 100,000 prisoners through its amnesty program, reinforcing a commitment to human rights and reintegration.
