In the first half of 2025, a total of 60,836 inmates were granted sentence reductions or early release based on good behavior, according to a report by the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court on judicial performance during this period.

Trial courts issued decisions to reduce prison terms or conditionally release prisoners who had shown significant rehabilitation progress. Simultaneously, these courts carried out enforcement for 60,972 individuals whose convictions had taken legal effect, achieving an enforcement rate of 98.65%.

Additionally, courts issued decisions to postpone, temporarily suspend, or terminate the execution of prison sentences for 2,368 inmates, also due to rehabilitation or other qualifying factors.

In terms of financial relief, the courts reviewed and approved reductions or exemptions for state budget-related payments in 921 cases, amounting to nearly 4.5 billion VND (approximately 177,000 USD), all in accordance with the law.

Regarding compensation, the courts processed one claim directly under their responsibility and resolved it with a payout exceeding 3.3 billion VND (approximately 130,000 USD). They also handled 30 civil lawsuits filed by individuals wrongfully convicted, seeking compensation from state agencies. Of these, nine cases have been resolved, while the remainder are under review as per legal procedure.

The handling of compensation requests and damage claims in civil lawsuits has been conducted with objectivity and prudence.

Chief Justice Le Minh Tri also reported that alongside judicial proceedings, courts have been implementing the Law on the Organization of People's Courts (2024) and advancing judicial reforms under Central Resolution No. 27 (2022), which focuses on building a socialist rule-of-law state in Vietnam for the new era.

Furthermore, courts have reviewed and implemented Resolution No. 18 (2017) within the judiciary, executing central directives aimed at streamlining and restructuring the organizational apparatus to enhance operational efficiency.

In terms of criminal cases, courts received 57,911 cases involving 116,423 defendants and resolved 44,178 cases involving 82,999 defendants. This reflects resolution rates of 76.29% for cases and 71.29% for defendants. Compared to the same period in 2024, this represents an increase of 2,723 cases and 7,517 defendants received, and an increase of 2,219 cases and 4,953 defendants resolved.

The proportion of judgments and rulings overturned was 0.53%, with 0.36% attributed to subjective errors. The proportion of amended decisions was 4.98%, with 0.3% due to subjective causes.
