The national women's volleyball team makes its debut at the World Cup.
The year 2025 marks a historic milestone for Vietnamese women's volleyball, as three teams across national, youth, and club levels will represent the country on the global stage.
Following more than two years of exceptional performance and determination, Vietnam’s national women’s volleyball team, led by Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, has secured a spot for the first time at the prestigious World Cup.
According to the official draw, Vietnam is placed in Group G alongside Poland, Germany, and Kenya at the 2025 World Cup. The tournament will run from August 22 to September 7, featuring 32 countries.
In Group G, Poland is considered the strongest team, currently ranked sixth in the FIVB world rankings. Their standout star is Agnieszka Korneluk, who towers over 2 meters tall and is regarded as one of the world’s top blockers.
Vietnam's next opponent is Germany, a team significantly stronger in all aspects. The final team in the group is Kenya, who previously played a friendly match with Vietnam after the 2023 FIVB Challenger Cup in France, ending in a 2-2 draw.
Vietnam's participation in this major tournament is not focused on results, but rather on learning, gaining experience, and using the opportunity to grow the sport domestically. Head coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet emphasized that the key to sustained progress lies in strengthening youth training, enhancing the quality of the national league, and making targeted, effective investments in the national team.
Before the senior team’s qualification, the U20 women’s team had already made history by earning a spot at the 2025 FIVB U21 World Championship. They achieved this by defeating Chinese Taipei 3-0 at the 2024 Asian U20 Championship.
This unprecedented achievement gives young Vietnamese athletes valuable international exposure and offers a promising foundation for future national team generations.
The U21 World Championship will be held in Indonesia from August 7 to 17. Vietnam has been drawn into a tough group alongside Indonesia (host), Argentina, Serbia, Puerto Rico, and Canada.
The year 2025 thus presents both challenges and immense opportunities for Vietnamese women’s volleyball to assert its position at both youth and senior levels. Vietnam will also have a representative at the club level in an elite global tournament.
After finishing runner-up at the 2025 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship, VTV Binh Dien Long An earned a direct ticket to the 2025 FIVB Women’s Club World Championship, which is scheduled for December.
This is the third consecutive year that a Vietnamese women's club has reached the final of a continental competition and qualified for the world club championship. In previous years, Sport Center 1 competed in 2023, followed by Ninh Binh in 2024.
VTV Binh Dien Long An’s qualification is not just a victory for one team but a testament to the rising stature of Vietnamese women’s volleyball. It reflects a strong commitment to long-term investment, continuous growth, and the ambition to conquer greater heights.
