Pursuant to Decision No. 1727/QĐ-BVHTTDL dated June 6, 2025, issued by the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism on organizing the 2025 Russian Film Week in Vietnam, the Department of Cinema is collaborating with ROSKINO (the Russian Federal Agency for Audiovisual Content) to hold the event from June 26 to 28.
Opening the film week on the evening of June 26 is His name was not listed (2025), directed by Sergey Korotaev. The film is set on June 21, 1941, when young Lieutenant Kolya Pluzhnikov, after receiving his posting order, arrives in Brest. The crowded train station and masses of people do not faze the determined soldier. Kolya quickly proceeds to the Brest Fortress, the base of his new unit. At 4:00 a.m., the sound of explosions signals the beginning of war. Though his name was not on the official roster of soldiers stationed at the fortress, he joins the battle-his first and one that lasts for ten months.
Another epic production featured in the event is Catherine the Great (2025), directed by Morad Abdel-Fattakh. The era of court coups in Russia comes to a close with the coronation of one of history’s most renowned figures: Catherine the Great. Though she might have settled into her role as Empress Consort, her resilience and determination proved that her rightful place was on the throne.
Also screening are Fedya – a national football player (2024) by director Nikolay Akelkin, The wish of fairy fish (2023) by Alexander Voytinskiy, and Devyataev (2021). These films offer a rare opportunity for Vietnamese audiences to enjoy a diverse selection of genres from contemporary Russian cinema-an experience not often available, as most foreign films in local theaters are Hollywood productions.
