On June 23, Hanoi police announced that they had launched a criminal investigation and filed charges against Vu Nam Phuong (also known as Vu Hong Phuc, alias “Cun Bong”), Nguyen Nam Thang, and Chu Thi My Nhung for “violating accounting regulations with serious consequences.”

Vu Nam Phuong is a well-known social media influencer, boasting over 300,000 followers on Facebook, 500,000 on TikTok, and 72,000 on Instagram.

She gained fame as a “hot mom” flaunting a glamorous lifestyle and her role as a mother of seven. She often shared content featuring luxury shopping and high-end living.

Leveraging her popularity, Phuong engaged in extensive retail activities involving fruits and health supplements through her VHP store and various e-commerce platforms under the legal entity American Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company.

According to business records, the American Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company was established in 2017, with Nguyen Nam Thang (born 1995), Phuong’s husband, listed as the legal representative.

The company operates in wholesale distribution of household items, including suitcases, bags, leather and faux leather goods, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, perfumes, cosmetics, hygiene products, ceramics, and glassware.

Additionally, the company is heavily involved in retail sales of food, beverages, tobacco, and other general merchandise.

Authorities revealed that from 2023 onward, Phuong, Thang, and accountant Chu Thi My Nhung (born 1985) engaged in fraudulent revenue declarations to tax authorities.

While the actual revenue of their business system exceeded 120 billion VND (approximately USD 4.7 million), they declared only about 5 billion VND (approximately USD 195,000), resulting in a tax loss of over 10 billion VND (roughly USD 390,000) to the state budget.

According to Hanoi police, these figures are only preliminary. Suspicious transactions through Vu Nam Phuong’s account reportedly total more than 500 billion VND (approximately USD 19.5 million), and further investigations are ongoing.

The case involving TikToker Vu Hong Phuc “Cun Bong” serves as a stark reminder of the legal obligations influencers must adhere to when engaging in commercial activities.

Previously, Ninh Binh provincial police arrested Le Van Hai (born 1995, from Van Phu Commune, Nho Quan District) for alleged violations related to selling goods via social media. Hai operated the TikTok channel “Gia dinh Hai Sen” with 2.6 million followers and a Facebook vlog titled “Hai Sen Vlog.”

Additionally, in a separate controversy involving misleading vegetable candy promotions, the Ministry of Public Security’s Investigation Agency prosecuted and detained Hằng Du Muc, Quang Linh Vlogs, and Miss Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien, along with several others, for producing counterfeit food and deceiving consumers.
