On the occasion of the United Nations Day of Vesak 2025, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha selected the painting "Lotus in Pure Land" as a diplomatic gift to present to the President of Sri Lanka - a nation with a longstanding Buddhist tradition.
Sri Lanka regards Vietnam as a source of inspiration and encouragement in its own quest for progress and recovery, said President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka.
President Cuong thanked Sri Lanka for supporting Vietnam in the past struggle for national independence and for cooperating closely with Vietnam in the current process of national construction.
State President Luong Cuong on May 5 morning presided over an official welcome ceremony for Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, who is paying a state visit to Vietnam from May 4 – 6.
The two leaders agreed to further strengthen trust and cohesion between the two countries and their ruling parties.
The trip is the first to Vietnam by a Sri Lankan head of state in 16 years, since 2009, and it is also the first visit to the Southeast Asian nation by President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka since he took office in September 2024.
